WHO WE ARE

Think Tank Training Centre is an internationally recognized and award winning VFX and computer animation school. We are often featured in publications and our students go on to win awards in high profile competitions like the Rookies. Our quaint campus is located in a beautiful heritage building at the bottom of Lonsdale, just across from the Quay in North Vancouver. This makes it a great location for those who have to commute, as the Lonsdale Quay is a central hub for many bus routes, including the seabus, for those coming from downtown. We are a small, cohesive team of 8 people; most of us are avidly creative, driven and sociable. A friendly, open environment is important to us and often times on Friday’s we all go for a beer after work together before the weekend.

WHO YOU ARE

Someone that feels passionate about IT systems and is constantly looking for ways to optimize and improve these systems to become more efficient. You will be interacting with many of our students on a regular basis, guiding them through set-up processes and hardware issues, so it is very important that you are friendly and like to interact with people. You are good with your hands and are able to organize and foresee potential stocking and facilities issues and plan accordingly. You are able to work independently and without much supervision and complete tasks without much guidance. You are highly adaptable and like a variety of different tasks and roles to fill out your day and are highly motivated in taking on more responsibility.

THE ROLE

The Network Technician/Facilities Manager will be the glue that keeps everything behind the scenes working and functioning properly from software and hardware to general maintenance of our facilities. Some of your responsibilities will include:

Information Technology & Hardware

  • Keeping up to date on new technologies.
  • Creating manuals and instructions for set-up and IT events.
  • Hardware replacement and upgrades.
  • Troubleshooting hardware issues.
  • Building or replacing machines when needed.
  • Setup and maintenance of mapped drives (shared resources) on Active Directory.
  • Troubleshooting software issues. Windows and programs.
  • Updating and reimaging software.
  • Setup and maintenance of Windows servers and Active Directory.
  • Setting up user accounts on Active Directory.
  • Adding machines to Active Directory when reimaged.
  • Running and renewing the license servers for various software packages on campus.
  • Setting up and troubleshooting user end licensing for the various software packages.
  • Troubleshooting network issues.
  • Installation and maintenance of network hardware. Switches, cables, etc
  • Setup and maintenance of dhcp, dns on servers and routers.
  • Setup and maintenance of wireless network.
  • Ordering tablets and portable hard drives for new students.
  • Submitting RMA for tablets, portable hard drives.
  • Setting up/Updating phone system.

Facility Maintenance

  • Keeping track of and ordering paper products and soap.
  • Getting cleaning supplies, garbage bags, light bulbs, air filters.
  • General maintenance (fix or replace stuff that breaks).
  • Give security tasks that need attention (mostly cleaning related).
  • Organization of tools and storage.

Miscellaneous 

  • Working on art installations.

MUST HAVES

  • Diploma or higher in relevant field or equivalent experience

NICE TO HAVES / BONUS POINTS

  • Familiarity with the CG industry and a genuine interest in the world of animation
  • Knowledge of rendering
  • Knowledge/familiarity with VFX program and industry
