Visas & Permits
Once you have received your acceptance package (Official Letter of Acceptance, Student Contract) you can then use these documents to apply for your student visa/study permit. You will need a passport valid through your full term of study.
Click HERE to find everything you need. Read through it thoroughly to familiarize yourself with the process, and follow all the instructions carefully. All the forms can be found at the bottom of the page in the ‘Related Links’ section.
*Some countries do not need a visa to travel to Canada! Some only require the study permit. To find out if your country requires a visa, check HERE.
Canadian health services are top-notch. This is why a single day’s stay in a Canadian hospital without insurance can cost up to $3000.00CAD or more. It is the law for everyone in BC to have health insurance and that includes international students.
Fill out the online application and submit! GET AT LEAST 3 MONTHS OF COVERAGE. After 3 months you can choose to enroll in the Canada health care card system but it does NOT cover medicine, dentist, or other expenses beyond your doctor visits. The other option is to buy 12 months of private health insurance.
Budget $55-$65/month for your health insurance.
(NOTE: payment must be made by credit card for this method. If it is not possible for you to get access to a credit card then you can go to the office as soon as possible upon arrival to Vancouver. The office is located at 2826 West 4th Avenue, Vancouver, BC, V6K 1R2)
Upon arrival in Canada you may make an application to the BC Medical Services Plan (MSP) for coverage. This takes 90 days to be put into effect, which is why you previously applied for coverage with StudentSure. Go HERE for information and application forms.
Travel Tips from the Airport
Canada Line Sky Train/Seabus
The best way to get to Think Tank from the Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is the Canada Line Skytrain. Upon arrival at Waterfront Station, the Seabus will take you to the North Shore and drop you off within minutes of Think Tank. The fair ranges between $2.75 and $9.00* depending on the time of day.
*NOTE: do not use the student concession tickets as they do not apply to private learning institutions.

This is the website to Vancouver’s transportation system. You can plan out anywhere you would like to go down to the departure and arrival times, walking distance, cost, etc. It’s great. Click on the trip planner button located in the top left hand corner.
The taxi line-up is just outside the baggage claim areas. A taxi ride from YVR to North Vancouver will cost between $50 to $60 depending on the time of day, and could take 45 minutes (between 2am – 5am) to 75 minutes during rush hours. All taxis that service the airport are required to accept credit cards.
When looking for options, we strongly suggest you find something close to the school. Generally, our students find housing within five blocks of the school. Eliminating a daily commute can really help you to make the most of your time at Think Tank.
Working While Studying
Some students plan on working during their study period at Think Tank. Our 12 month program is a very intense year, so you will need to study hard and spend numerous hours at the school. We strongly advise our students to refrain from outside work during this time to focus on their studies.
