For students taking any of our 64-week signature programs, Term 1 finishes with a Final Project. For the final 4 weeks of their 16-week term, artists are tasked with taking a 2D concept and reimagining it in 3D. This project is the culmination of all the technical and creative skills that students learn throughout the term squeezed into a timeline similar to a real-life production pipeline. For many Think Tank artists, these projects have become a stepping stone to more advanced education and the intense pace of working in the CG industry.

About the contest

Term 1 Final Projects that are properly rendered and submitted in time are put into one of five categories based on cohort size (2 for Think Tank Online, 1 for Campus, and 1 for our Houdini curriculum). Next, voting is done by a panel of Think Tank Faculty, Staff and Industry colleagues. Once the judging is complete, the winners are announced and the following scholarship prizes are given out:
1st Place: $1,000 CAD
2nd Place: $500 CAD
3rd Place: $250 CAD

CG Fundamentals (Term 1 in one program)

Held entirely online for 16-weeks, the CG Fundamentals program allows students to grasp the basics of CG art while building a fully rendered 3D asset. A great stepping stone to more advanced education, this program helps newer artists identify which part of the industry they'd like to specialize in, and concludes with the Term 1 Final Project.

The winners (Houdini)

Think Tank's Online and Hybrid Houdini programs also feature a Term 1 Final Project with the basic philosophy as our other (CG Asset) programs. But, these projects are special in that they utilize SideFX's software, Houdini, and therefore move, contain physics and showcase the  procedural modeling capabilities of this powerful node-based software.

After completing Term 1 (and submitting their Final Projects) these artists can go on to take a wider breadth of Specializations that, alongside the CG Asset paths in Online, includes Animation, Compositing, and Rigging. There are an exclusive number of seats available for artists looking to learn in Vancouver in 2026.

Starting with the Fundamentals, these students will eventually specialize in either Characters & Creatures for Film or Games or Environments & Props for Film or Games. This student body is large as it includes our fully online CG Asset program and our signature Hybrid CG Asset program.
